Stress:
High stress levels suppress immune cells and deplete
the body of essential nutrients. Stress can be different
for every individual.
Poor digestion: If you cannot properly digest
your food, essential nutrients cannot be absorbed sufficiently.
Allergies: Allergens irritate the lining of the
digestive tract, allowing partly digested protein molecules
into the bloodstream where they are attacked by immune
cells, triggering allergic reactions. Allergens weaken
the immune system, leaving you less able to fight off
an infection when it comes around.
What
strengthens your immune system?
68 Servings of fresh fruit and vegetables:
Choose bright colours for the best supply of antioxidant
nutrients: red (peppers, beetroot, cherries, berries),
orange (citrus fruit, carrots, peppers), yellow (peppers,
bananas, lemons, pineapple), purple (berries), green
(broccoli, spinach, peas, Swiss chard). Have fruit for
snacks during the day. Eat vegetables lightly steamed,
raw or in warm soups.
Wild, oily fish: 3 servings of 100g per week
(salmon, mackerel, tuna, sardines) avoid farmed
fish as it is rich in hormones and antibiotics.
Other good protein: organic chicken, organic
eggs, tofu, legumes such as chickpeas, kidney beans,
broad beans and lentils. >>>
